Why We Love Them

he launch of exciting new direct to consumer brands has forced us to re-examine traditional products that we’ve been using for years. Some, as it turns out, aren’t actually good for us or the environment. So, it was only a matter of time before we turned our microscope to examine toothpaste. After learning about the chemicals used in a lot of common, traditional toothpaste brands and the negative effects that plastic toothpaste tubes have on the environment, Huppy has created a new solution to keep your mouth healthy, breath fresh, and teeth whitened, all while removing plastic from the equation.

Origin Story

Huppy was founded by nature-lovers David Phan and Cathy Tran, who like to spend their free time outside surfing, swimming, scuba diving. Basically, they just love nature. As the two started learning more about how to protect the environment that they spend so much of their free time in, they quickly realized that toothpaste consumption habits were hurting the environment. After a quick search that confirmed, with staggering numbers, that their hunch was correct, they knew they could make a big impact by tackling a habit that everyone does at least twice a day: brushing teeth. When they started Huppy, Phan and Tran wanted to ensure they were creating a completely sustainable and plasti- free product. There is zero-waste with Huppy, and every piece of their production process is ocean-friendly. As they educate people on how to use toothpaste tablets, Phan and Tran dream about making the whole oral care industry plastic-free. A goal that, when achieved, we can all smile about.

The Science & The Soul

The Science

You may be asking, what are toothpaste tablets? Toothpaste tablets have recently come on the market as an eco-friendly, zero-waste solution to brushing your teeth. Toothpaste tablets are toothpaste made without water and drilled down into a pill-like form. You put the tablet in your mouth, chew, and your saliva helps break down the tab into a paste that you can then use to brush your teeth. That’s it.

Huppy’s toothpaste tablets, which they call toothtabs, are some of the best on the market as they are fully sustainable, completely natural, and made out of effective ingredients to fight cavities, whiten teeth naturally, and keep mouths fresh. Phan and Tran went through over 100 iterations, formula modifications, ingredients, and flavor profiles to create the best toothpaste tablets on the market. Huppy’s toothtabs purposefully include the ingredients that are good for your mouth, leaving out the ones that are damaging.

The good ingredients that Huppy uses include Hydroxyapatite, a nontoxic fluoride alternative, Xylitol, a natural sweetener that protects teeth against bacteria, and a host of other all-natural ingredients like Coconut Oil, Peppermint Oil, Aloe Vera, and Charcoal. Huppy’s toothtabs do not have fluoride, artificial ingredients, SLS, Formaldehyde, or GMOs, and they are cruelty-free.

The Soul

A reminder, 20 billion non-recyclable toothpaste tubes are made every year. With nowhere for the waste to go once it serves its purpose, that staggering number of non-recyclable plastic that we’ve all contributed to goes to our oceans and landfills, critically hurting our environment.
