It’s time to get electric! These power bikes are, as the name implies, extremely rad. Whether you’re a parent, a dedicated biker, or just someone who enjoys the wind through your hair, Rad Power Bikes has a bike for you. Cars? Who needs them? These bikes are far more energy-efficient, and far more fun.

Origin Story

Way back in 2007, when he was still in high school and tired of biking sixteen miles every day, Mike Randenbaugh picked up a wrench, battery, and motor, and attached them to an old mountain bike. When his neighbors saw what he’d done, they begged Mike to build them their own electric bikes, and Rad Power Bikes was born. In the years following, Randenbaugh refined and perfected his design, and joined forces with his childhood friend Ty Collins in 2015 to reform Rad Power Bikes into a direct to consumer business. Today, RPB has almost a dozen models, and demand has never been higher since the pandemic began. Biking is back in style, and it is rad indeed.

The Science

Using cutting-edge 3D printing technology, the artisans at the Rad Lab are able to give life to their imagination, manufacturing the designs straight off the computer. Electrical engineers test the motors, speed controllers, and batteries to ensure they work in tandem with one another. The dynameter, or “Dyno,” allows the team to stress test the motors for torque, speed, and responsiveness. All of this comes together when added to the frame to create an electric bike that will take you far.

The Soul

Carbon emissions from cars are a massive detriment to the environment, and one of the leading causes of climate change. Although it may not help for long commutes, Rad Power Bikes can reach speeds of up to 20 miles per hour, more than enough to get you to work. The team at RPB intentionally set their prices as low as possible, to get as many people possible riding bikes instead of driving. Clean electricity powers these marvelous machines, and RPB envisions a world where e-bikes have replaced the car.
