Tradlands Review: A Women's Clothing Brand That’s Ethically Stylish

Meet The Brand: Why We Love Tradlands

When it comes to fashion, chances are high that the clothes you buy were built with cheap labor and cheap materials for low mileage so that you buy again and again. But then there’s Tradlands: A female-founded, ethically responsible clothing brand whose quality materials and flattering silhouettes deliver designer-level style and livable longevity without the steep price tag of designer brands.

Ratings Breakdown

Each Item was built with durable materials, consciously sourced fabrics, and gave me a flattering fit. Combine that with extreme comfort and I can’t complain.

Each item is also versatile: easily able to complement other tops and bottoms in your closet. Furthermore, the cost-per-wear is reasonable when considering its function for lifetime use. The styles look and feel timeless and their ethical practices don’t hurt.

Tradlands was created to combat fast-fashion, offering closet staples with long wear durability. Their partnerships with manufacturers are based on the highest standards of production quality with an emphasis on social welfare.

The Shelter Cotton Cardigan (Storm) Review

In all honesty, I’ve worn this cardigan more than any other sweater in my wardrobe. It’s truly that comfortable. Whether I’m going out to dinner with my husband or simply lounging with my puppy on a slow Sunday morning, it’s the perfect top layer regardless of weather or occasion.

I feel no guilt acknowledging that I reach for it regularly. The Shelter Cardigan’s weight is light, yet warm and cozy mixed with a style and color that does feel fresh and trendy. The large, neutral-colored buttons line the front of the cardigan giving the perfect amount of contrast without being an eyesore.

I will say though, it’s a slightly-oversized fit so I’d recommend sizing down if you’re looking for a more snug like. That being said, if you’re like me and love the loose look across your wardrobe staples, stick to your true size.

The Haven Mock Neck Sweater (Black) Review

If you’re looking for a sweater designed to give you an elegant, effortless look, then this is for you. Like the Shelter Cotton Cardigan, the Haven Mock Neck Sweater‘s slightly oversized with a loose mock neckline and a longer body that extends past your waistline.

The dropped shoulder gives it a cozy-chic vibe, while the cut creates a look that feels timeless. As to the wear, the Haven is ultra-soft, but a bit itchy for those sensitive-skinned ladies like myself.

To alleviate your concerns, if you get irritated easily by slightly scratchy fabrics, I threw a long-sleeve under the sweater to serve a dual purpose — a layer between me and the sweat/itch and extra warmth.

The Finn Jumpsuit (Sand) Review

The Finn Jumpsuit has a lovely, loose fit that’s easy to style with or without the belt, but if you’re looking for a cinched waist, add the tie. There’s no belt loops so where you cinch is up to you.

However, I preferred the Abbot Kinney vibe I got without it. The front opening has medium-sized buttons that are easy to get on and off and I was pleasantly surprised to find 4 deep pockets: 2 on the chest and 2 below the waist. These were great for lightweight items like a hair tie or sunglasses.

The jumpsuit is also breathable, which goes well with the Spring /Summer season or can be easily layered under a sweater or paired with boots in the cooler seasons. Feel free to experiment with earrings, heels, sneakers to complete your look.

The Guide Coverall (Honey) Review

The Guide Coverall ended up being my go-to look. It required little accessorizing and was extremely snug and comfortable. The honey color, bold and vibrant, isn’t overpowering – it’s the perfect statement-neutral (yes, I know this sounds like a paradox) for a little pop of color that pairs well with a variety of natural outfit palettes.

I completed my look with my go-to black moto-boots and a black, vintage Coach satchel for a simple, understated aesthetic. While meticulously designed, it still gave me that perfectly worn-in-denim feel. The coverall also comes with waist buttons which will give you a more tailored fit if a loose mid-section isn’t your vibe.

In contrast to the Finn Jumpsuit, The Guide Coverall has six pockets: two in the front, two at the chest and two in the back. They’re deep enough to store your phone, chapstick…or even a snack. But, be aware, the Tradlands team kindly mentioned that this style runs small so they advise sizing up – typically, I wear a small, but the medium fits like a dream.

About The Brand

Tradlands begins with its founder, Sadie, and her quest to find comfortable, stylish clothing that lasts. Experimenting in her early 20’s, Sadie was left disappointed and disheartened by the fast fashion industry, cheap, unethical sourcing practices, and wasteful, wear-and-tear clothing. She also noticed the superior quality and construction of men’s fashion lines as opposed to the lack of durable, livable, styles and fabrics for women.

Frustrated, Sadie realized then that she could create what was missing — and Tradlands was born. Fueled by the desire to create timeless pieces with sustainable materials, Sadie sought out consciously-sourced fabrics for every design. This mentality and dedication to quality materials and practices  continues to support Tradlands’ mission and secure its unique foothold in today’s ever-evolving fashion industry.

Designing and creating dresses, classic tops, shorts, sweaters and chic accessories (scrunchies, tote bags, hoops and chains), Sadie pushed Tradlands to become not only a woman’s brand that endures with style, but one that encourages collaboration with manufacturers whose commitment to waste reduction, ethically-made clothing, fabric performance, and durability is just as important as creating beautiful, stylish, flattering, practical pieces — for all shapes and sizes.

How’s Tradlands’ Quality?

Due to the durability and longevity of the materials used to craft each item, I’d say the quality holds up pretty well. Besides the specific experience with the Haven’s itchiness (I saw customer reviews confirming the itchiness on the Tradlands site, so you might want to check before you buy), the overall quality of wear and care has been pretty consistent no matter how often I wear their products.

Tradlands prides itself on high performance materials such as cotton, silk, and tencel to create the quality brands you’ll find here. Combine that with their ethical practices and manufacturing facilities, their considered and conscientious details, and their commitment to producing less waste, quality is clearly a priority and staple of the Tradlands brand.

Furthermore, because each item has been specifically crafted it’s important that you pay attention to how each product needs to be washed and dried. So, if you’re careful in your care, you won’t be disappointed.

How Does Tradlands Fit?

Tradlands uses a size guide to be as inclusive as possible for all body types and women’s needs. Furthermore, along with all of their clothing options, they have a section dedicated specifically to Plus-Size silhouettes, so that women of all shapes and sizes can find clothing that’s been created with their needs in mind.

No matter which item catches your eye, it’s important to pay attention to the materials present in each item — because not only will that inform how you wear a specific piece, but how you care for it. Tradlands has gone to great lengths to make sure each product is expertly crafted and of the highest quality and lasting materials. The information on their material makeup will always be on the product page when you buy as well as on the product tags itself when it arrives.

  • Shelter Cotton Cardigan –  Make sure to purchase this cardigan true to size. It’s tailored to be loose fitting. Too small, you may be disappointed, too big, you may be engulfed.
  • Haven Mock Neck Sweater – This is also a true to size fit, albeit an oversized fit. Works extremely well as an outer layer and can prevent the itch to sensitive skin.
  • Finn Jumpsuit – Snug as long as you stick to the Size Guide and order true to your size. Don’t mess around here. It’s a moisture wicking design, breathable and crafted to break in with wear.
  • Guide Coverall – This Coverall runs small so make sure to purchase a size up for the best fit. You may also want to double-check the arm length on a size-up purchase regardless. If you have long arms, you may be left wanting in look despite the comfort of the outfit.

Are Tradlands Clothes Worth It?

In my opinion, if you can get beyond the high-price point: Yes.

Not only are Tradlands’ ethical practices something to celebrate, but Tradlands’ Cost Per Wear Promise practically guarantees that you can wear their clothing up to 50 times before the regular wear-and-tear breakdown as opposed to the 5 times of casual use from fast-fashion competitors. That’s a staggering statistic of cheap fashion because according to Forbes, “Cheap synthetic fibers also emit gasses like N2O, which is 300 times more damaging than CO2.”

This promise cuts carbon emissions by up to 400% per item per year. That’s a lot of environmental help with sustainable products. And according to a World Bank report in 2019, the world, much less the fashion industry could use all the help in this area.

How To Wash & Care for Tradlands Clothing

Shelter Cotton Cardigan – 100% Cotton. You’ll want to Machine Wash it Cold to prevent shrinkage and lay down to dry.

Haven Mock Neck Sweater – 50% alpaca, 45% recycled poly/acrylic, 5% wool. You’ll want to Machine Wash it Cold and lay down to dry. No hanging needed.

Finn Jumpsuit – Made of 70% Tencel and 30% linen. You should Machine Wash it Cold and hang to dry. Hanging it helps to keep the material breathable and less likely to add wrinkles.

Guide Coverall – This is 100% cotton and breaks in with each wear. You should Machine Wash it Cold and hang to dry.

Tradlands Coupons & Discounts

Tradlands’ Double Stitched Rewards program is easy to enroll in, earn points and start bagging discounts on each purchase. For every dollar spent, you earn 5 points, and as your points start to accumulate you can redeem them for vouchers on your next purchase.

Outside of purchasing their products, Tradlands even allows you to earn points by referring friends, following them on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram separately give points) or even writing a review. You can earn up to as many points as you want, but you can only redeem one voucher per purchase.

Where to Buy Tradlands

For now, the best place is still — either buying all at once or through their interest free-payment plans.

I wouldn’t call their policy simple, but it’s relatively reasonable. All purchases from Tradlands can be returned or exchanged if they haven’t been worn, washed, or damaged. Everything that came with that original purchase (including the tags) must be kept with any returned items. And if you don’t return it within the 30-day window of having it, then you’re out of luck. So make sure you return it swiftly if you purchased the wrong size.

Tradlands stands by their high-quality practices and would want to fix any error for their customers. As long as you notify Tradlands within 10 days of its arrival and send an email with your order number, a description of the damage and a photo confirming it, they’ll replace it free of charge. And if they happen to not have it in stock, they’ll send along a gift card, store credit with no expiration or a complete refund.

Tradlands pre-shrunk fabrics are primarily used for their t-shirts and knitwear. But if you want to be completely sure before you make a purchase, then always check the item’s product page.

Tradlands Review Summary

There’s a lot to be said about Tradlands, but fast-fashion this is certainly not, and that’s a good thing! If you’re a woman who’s constantly disappointed by the money you spend on products that don’t last after the 5th time you’ve worn or washed them, then Tradlands might be a great solution for you.

Sure, Tradlands is on the pricey side, but with the longevity and care present in their products, your purchase will save you money in the long run. With a timeless, simple style and a penchant for helping the environment, Tradlands delivers clothing with class and responsibility threaded through every stitch.

“The moment I pulled this sweater out of its bag I knew this was a forever sweater. The quality of the stitching is bar none, and it is warm without being suffocating. I have washed it once already, and the sweater kept its shape and is even softer. If you treat this piece well, it will love you for as long as you keep it! Do NOT pass on this item!”
